Complex Care through the NDIS — also known as High Intensity Daily Personal Activities — is specialist support for participants who have higher, more complex or medically involved care needs that require trained and experienced staff.

This includes participants with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions, complex health needs or behaviours of concern that require a higher level of skill, knowledge and consistency to support safely.

At Shyna Promise, our complex care staff hold the required high intensity training and work closely with each participant's allied health team, support coordinators and families to deliver care that is both clinically safe and genuinely person-centred.

What Does Complex Care Include?

Our high intensity trained staff can support participants with any of the following.

Medication & Health Monitoring

Complex medication administration, health monitoring and following detailed medical management plans.

Our trained staff can assist with complex medication administration including subcutaneous injections, monitoring of health indicators such as blood pressure, blood glucose and oxygen saturation, and following detailed health and medical management plans. Staff are trained to identify and escalate any changes in health status promptly and appropriately.

Respiratory & Ventilator Support

Ventilator management, tracheostomy care and respiratory support for participants who need it.

We can support participants who require ventilator management, tracheostomy care and other forms of respiratory support. This includes routine checks, circuit management, emergency response procedures and coordination with respiratory specialists. All staff providing this level of support hold the required high intensity training.

Enteral Feeding

PEG, NG and other enteral feeding support delivered safely, consistently and with dignity.

Our staff can provide support with enteral feeding including PEG and nasogastric feeding. This includes preparation, administration, monitoring for complications, tube site care and documentation. All enteral feeding support is delivered strictly in line with the participant's mealtime management plan and in consultation with a speech pathologist or dietitian.

Complex Personal Care

High intensity personal care including bowel care, continence management and wound support.

We provide high intensity personal care for participants who require a higher level of skill and training than standard personal care. This includes bowel care, continence management, catheter support, pressure care, wound care and skin integrity monitoring. All care is delivered with the utmost respect for the participant's dignity and privacy.

Behaviour Support

Consistent, trained support for participants with complex behaviours, following PBS plans closely.

Our staff are trained to support participants who have a Positive Behaviour Support plan in place. We work closely with behaviour support practitioners to implement strategies consistently, de-escalate situations safely and document incidents accurately. We believe every behaviour is communication, and our role is to help each person feel safe and understood.

Allied Health Collaboration

Working alongside your therapy team to implement recommendations and support goals consistently.

We work closely with each participant's allied health team — including occupational therapists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, dietitians and behaviour support practitioners — to implement recommendations consistently in everyday support. Our goal is to ensure that what happens in therapy is reflected in everyday support.

NDIS funding

Understanding the
Codes on Your Invoice

Complex Care is funded from your Core Supports budget under High Intensity Daily Personal Activities. This funding category is specifically for participants who require support workers with additional training and specialist skills.

The hourly rates for high intensity support are higher than standard support, reflecting the specialist training and expertise required of the staff delivering care.
