Understanding the support

What is Mental Health Support?

"Big feelings are welcome here. Always."

Make a Referral

Mental Health Support through the NDIS is available for participants who have a psychosocial disability β€” that is, a disability that arises from a mental health condition and significantly impacts their everyday life and functioning.

This support is not therapy. Our role is to provide practical, day-to-day support that helps participants build routine, maintain connection, develop coping skills and live as fully and safely as possible.

At Shyna Promise, we approach mental health support with patience, consistency and zero judgment. We show up the same way every time β€” because consistency is one of the most powerful things we can offer.

Everything included

What Does Mental Health Support Include?

Practical, consistent support for participants living with psychosocial disability.

πŸ“…

Routine Building

Establishing and maintaining daily routines that provide structure, stability and a sense of control.

One of the most powerful things a support worker can offer someone with a mental health condition is consistency and routine. We work with participants to establish morning and evening routines, regular meal times, sleep hygiene habits, and structured daily schedules. We help participants stick to routines on hard days, adjust them when life changes, and celebrate the stability that routine brings.
🀝

Social Connection

Supporting participants to maintain relationships, reduce isolation and engage with their community.

Social isolation is one of the biggest challenges for people living with mental health conditions. We support participants to maintain existing relationships, build new connections, engage with community groups and activities, and develop the social confidence needed to participate in the world around them. Connection is healing β€” and we take that seriously.
🧘

Emotional Regulation Support

Practical strategies and in-the-moment support for managing emotions, anxiety and distress.

We support participants with practical emotional regulation strategies in real-world situations. This includes using grounding techniques during moments of anxiety or distress, helping participants identify early warning signs, practising breathing or mindfulness strategies, supporting de-escalation during difficult moments, and helping participants reflect on and learn from challenging experiences.
πŸ₯

Linking to Services

Helping participants access mental health services, appointments and community supports.

We support participants to access and engage with mental health services and community supports. This may include helping participants attend mental health appointments, supporting them to communicate with their treating team, assisting with paperwork or phone calls, linking to community mental health services, peer support programs or community groups, and helping participants navigate the mental health system.
🏠

Daily Living Support

Practical home support that helps participants maintain their environment during difficult periods.

When mental health is poor, everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning and personal care can feel overwhelming. We provide practical daily living support that helps participants maintain a safe, hygienic and functional home environment during difficult periods. Our goal is to help participants feel dignified and in control of their own space, even on the hardest days.

Medication Prompting

Consistent medication prompting and support to maintain medication routines safely.

Medication adherence is critical for many participants with mental health conditions, but it can be one of the hardest things to maintain consistently. We provide regular, supportive medication prompting to help participants take their medication as prescribed. We approach medication support with respect and without pressure.

Our approach

"We don't fix people.
We walk alongside them."

Recovery is not linear. We show up on the good days and the hard ones β€” consistently, without judgment, and always in the participant's corner.

"I've had support workers before who were just going through the motions. Shyna Promise is completely different. My worker actually listens, checks in on me and shows up the same way every single time. That consistency has been everything."
